Obsession - Jennifer L. Armentrout

“Never in my life had I been more frustrated. Go figure it wouldn't be with a human but a freaking alien. At least I now knew that the male species were asses no matter what planet they hailed from.

~Serena Cross, page number unknown at the time

Serena Cross is a 23 year old school counsellor, Hunter is an Arum commanded to protect her from the Luxen who would have her dead, and are willing to hunt her forever to ensure she dies. Both with fiery tempers, neither willing to submit to the other. Throw these together in a big house with just the two of them. What will you get? A hell of a lot of fire. In this spin-off of the Lux series, experience the Arum in a new, sinfully delicious way.

Arya: Let me say this first: I have always loved Jennifer L. Armentrout; always loved her books, always loved her characters, plot, and every single thing she's ever written. I've loved all of them forever, even when I was hesitant to try them out. This book was no exception. I really sped through this, even though I did actually have a few problems with it...
First impression: when I saw the cover of this book, the first words to cross my mind were Hot. DAMN. I thought this would be under Jen's pen name, J.Lynn, especially considering the content (there's a hint to all of ya!), but no, it was under Jen's own name, probably because of the relation to the Lux series.
Now, in this book, we see the Arum, the hunters of the Lux, in a whole new way, particularly since our muscular, sexy hunk of meat is an Arum. With masterful hands, Jen pulls in all we knew about them, and twists it all up again. For those who thought the Arum were mindless, killing machines? Yeah, I did too, but no. She proves to us in this sexy novel that they actually have a heart, care for others. It's just not normal.
I actually thought that Hunter was a really sexy guy, with his forceful nature and attitude, but as the novel progressed, he lost some of the domineering nature and began really caring for Serena, loving her, treating her with care. I kind of lost it at that point, when he got all soft and mushy. However, it does actually fit perfectly well, softening him, making him more human. There was the problem that I didn't appreciate how quickly Hunter got attracted to Serena, how quickly he made his move, and I didn't really like how easily Serena responded to it, as if he wasn't a stranger. It bothered me a bit. However, it made more sense as the novel progressed, as they got to know each other and care for each other. That part I was alright with. I just wish he'd kept his attitude. Serena on the other hand, she accepted her situation way too quickly, thinking too little 'what the hell?!?!' and too much 'sure, that's cool'. However, her character did stay consistent throughout the entire novel, something I quite liked myself, and she was a really good heroine for this story. I loved her myself xD
Jen also tortured me in this novel; she gave us a hint, just a taste, of Hunter meeting Daemon, but there were no details. It completely destroyed me! I wanted to see, desperately, how it would all play out, how she would pit them against, or for each other! But she denied it to me T_T. However, she has mentioned that she might put the scene into Origin, so fingers crossed! I want that scene! A fight between a sexy, arrogant Arum and an even sexier, equally arrogant Luxen? Sign me up! I want it!
If you love books with a  very, very, drop-your-panties sexy guy, who changes heart and becomes soft, this is most definitely for you. (seriously though; I can't think of any girl who wouldn't drop their panties for this guy. Mmm, Daemon-Hunter sandwich; now that's yummy x'D Kidding!) You'll love it, for sure.

What will it be? I'm thinking...
8 stars out of 10

Yeah, I couldn't find a book trailer... but in exchange...

Origin Teasers! You. Will. Want. This. Book!

All the pent up, helpless rage formed a wrecking ball inside of me. Maintaining human form was near impossible. I wanted to hit something—destroy something. I needed to.

"Daemon, no one—"
"Shut up," I said, turning to where Matthew sat in the corner of the room. Right this moment I wanted to destroy him. "Just shut the hell up."

"We can't lose you," she said after a few moments of awkward as hell silence. "You have to understand that we aren't doing this because we don't care about Kat. We're doing this because we love you."
"But I love her," I said without hesitation.
Dee's eyes widened, probably since it was the first time she'd heard me say it out loud, well, about anyone other than my family. I wished I had said it more often, especially to Kat. Funny how that kind of shit always turns out in the end. While you're deep in something, you never say or do what you need to. It's always after the fact, when it's too late that you realize what you've should've said or done.
It couldn't be too late. I knew that. The fact that I was still alive was testament to that. Like Dee said, though, there were worse things than death.

"I want a years-worth of seconds and minutes with you. I want a decade's worth of hours, so many that I can't add them up."

Did those make you swoon as much as they made me? I bet they did! Can't wait for it to come out! All the love to Jennifer L. Armentrout!

See you all next time!
~Arya
